Dramatic Developments at The Rep.
------------------
Amazingly, in September, ten years will have passed since the members
of Stoke on Trent Repertory Theatre packed their bags and headed down
the street to the fantastic, newly-built theatre which is now their
home on Leek Road. To commemorate and celebrate this milestone
birthday, the Rep is making some very dramatic changes to the way it
runs in order to offer its audiences more.
Janet Smith, Director of Marketing says, "By introducing
a totally new approach to the way in which we plan our season, we are
able to offer local theatregoers more choice and more opportunities
to enjoy a visit to the Rep.
More to see
"The really exciting thing, from the theatre's point of view, is
that we are going to produce six main Rep productions each
season instead of our traditional five; a change which has been made
possible by condensing the run of each play into one week.
Additional features of the new format are the introduction of an
opening night special where all tickets are just £6; and, in a
move that will be particularly welcomed by many of our audience
members, the introduction of a Saturday matinee as a permanent
feature for all main Rep productions.
We appreciate that not everyone wants to venture out during the dark
winter nights, so by including a Saturday matinee, our patrons can
continue to enjoy a visit to the Rep throughout the whole year".
A Rep Premier
But that's not all that's new! Following on from last year's highly
successful British amateur premiere of Alan Bennett's The Lady in the
Van, the Rep is going one further: the brand new season is starting
with the first ever production of a brand new play.
Over the last few months Rep members have been working in
collaboration with two local playwrights, professional writer Paul
Forrester O'Neill and local actor Christopher Salisbury, which has
resulted in a new play about the problems and perils of finding love
once you've reached the age where two cakes are needed to accommodate
all the candles!
Celebrate in Style
To celebrate the Rep's own double figure birthday (its 10th in the
new theatre), a very special guest will be appearing for one night
only at an Anniversary Gala Evening
to be held at the theatre on 21st November.
For most amateur groups the summer months are a time to relax and
take it easy, but down at the Rep it's all go in preparation for the
new era - and you know what? They can't wait!
